The Whisky Trail

This is a whisky worth going a little out of your way for, we were glad that we did when we first found it.

Woodlands Distillery sits at the base of the Porongurup Range in WA's Great Southern, where Batch #5 Single Malt Whisky is made grain to glass. using locally grown grain and natural spring water from the property. The whisky is matured in a single ex-bourbon cask, it has notes of orchard fruit, gentle spice, caramel, toasted almond and creamy vanilla. Batch #5 was awarded Gold at the 2025 Perth Royal Distilled Spirits Awards as well as Silver at the 2026 Melbourne Spirit Awards!

So, let's start in the Porongurups for this trail, and then head to Cowaramup to collect the freshly grown macadamias in their shell.  We've even included a stainless steel nut cracker because we think that saying, 'It's a hard nut to crack,' was probably written about macadamias. 

From there, we stop into newcomer Busso Jerky to collect their BBQ jerky and then to Capel for the incredible dark chocolate coated dried plums.  And then we head north to collect the Smoked Almonds from the Swan Valley and then the Black Lime & Chilli Peanuts from Gingin.  And yes, we know that the last two aren't in the South West but honestly, they are worth the drive.  

There's plenty to discover here, from fresh macadamias to the smoke of the almonds and jerky, the sharp hit of black lime and chilli, and the dark sweetness of plum and chocolate. The Whisky Trail is a very good introduction to an award-winning Great Southern single malt and some excellent WA food along the way.
